Currently nearly half of us who teach in U.S. colleges and universities do so part-time, a number according to the U.S. Department of Education, National Center for Education Statistics (2005) is expected to continue to increase. The social, economic, and educational trends driving this change are providing an explosion of opportunities.

The Society of Certified Adjunct Faculty Educators (SoCAFE) is an organization founded on learner-centered principles. Use of these principles in the college setting are critical to developing  21st Century Skills in adult learners. You'll discover how using learner-centered principles offers you a more fulfilling experience teaching at the college level.

We are now able to offer graduate credit* to accompany our certification. This is an especially attractive opportunity for those K-12 educators for whom continuing education is a requirement.

Maximizing these emerging opportunities requires that we be effective educators. The first step in this process is knowing what to teach. The second is to effectively impart that knowledge. It's this second critical step that separates effective from ineffective teachers. This is where SoCAFETM comes in.

To assist part-time college faculty in becoming more effective educators, SoCAFETM offers a knowledge-based certificate.

Through research, we identified 10 Core CompetenciesTM faculty need to be effective educators. We have developed a certification process that provides faculty a mechanism to demonstrate mastery of these competencies. Successful candidates will earn the designation of Certified Adjunct Faculty Educator (C.A.F.E.).

The C.A.F.E. certification is a portable and marketable credential that corroborates your teaching skills and dedication to the profession.

The trend of hiring part-time faculty to teach college is thriving in the new economy. Now is the time to pursue your C.A.F.E. certification. Whether you're new to the profession or a seasoned veteran, by pursuing our certification you'll acquire a wealth of knowledge that strengthens your teaching while benefiting your students.
